Purchased in 2014 at the Long Island Gem, Mineral, Jewelry & Fossil Show.  Measures approximately 6" x 3".
    Background
:  Discovered in Morocco, these fossilized ancient squid are 450 million years old. The Orthoceras fossils are believed by many people to balance emotions and promote success in business. Kalifano's genuine Orthoceras fossils are preserved in finely polished black limestone. The name Orthoceras means straight horn referring to the characteristic long, straight shell of these ancient cephalopods. Orthoceras ranged in size from a few inches in length to over six feet. They swam through water by filling the chambers of their shells with air. As they died, their shells accumulated on the ocean floor and were covered by sediments as they transformed into the stone you see today.
